Miranda Literary Magazine

A Literary Journal Dedicated to Long Fiction and Novellas.

Miranda Literary Magazine is currently reorganizing. For five years, we published some of the best fiction, poetry, essays, book reviews, nonfiction, and interviews on the web. It has been an exciting time to publish work electronically, and expand into print.

Miranda is returning in January with a simple goal: become the premiere publisher of long fiction. We are interested in short stories and novellas that take the time to develop into dynamic and thought provoking fiction. This is an under represented area of the literary market and we look forward to introducing you to new and established fiction writers who work in this elegant and important art form.

We are really excited about supporting and promoting the best fiction and the writers who work in this genre. However, we will not be publishing some of the great poetry, nonfiction, and articles that we have come to appreciate and admire. All our past contributors have truly become part of a unique group of creative and sharing artists. We are proud of their contributions to our magazine.

Our new direction is simple. We want to publish premiere long fiction. We are not book publishers, but would consider a manuscript of exceptional quality that is close to novel length. Our main focus will be on long short stories and novellas. We will be publishing a biannual anthology of quality expanded fiction. Some of the stories will be placed on the website. We will also use the website to promote our writers, post articles and news, and use it as a platform to sell the print version of the magazine. We will also be looking for essays about fiction writing, long fiction, the novella, and other topics in the craft of storytelling. We will also consider book reviews.

Submission Guidelines: Because we are looking for long fiction and novellas, we would like writers to query their projects (including a clear outline of the entire story) and the first twelve pages. The subject line should include: Long Fiction Query so it is easy to identify and it won’t fall into the spam filter. Complete projects sent without a query will not be considered.

The goal is to publish two collective volumes of fiction every year. Each issue will add to a library of award winning, up and coming fiction writers that will change the way we consider and read fiction. If you have fiction that fits this idea of expanding and nurturing long fiction, submit your query and the first twelve pages. Fostering fiction as an expansive mode of thinking, exploring, and understanding the world will change the way we think, read, and redefine the craft of writing fiction. We hope you join us in our endeavors.
